  Rauschpfeife windcap
  Windcap

En: Rauschpfeife, Cs: Vzdušnicová šalmaj, De: Rauschpfeife, Rauschpfeiffe, Schreyerpfeife Fr: Rauschpfeife, Hautbois du Poitou, It: Schreierpfeife

Rauschpfeifen are instruments with a double reed in a windcap (like the krumhorn and cornamuse) with a very wide conical bore, similar to a shawm, that allows them to be overblown at the octave to give them a range of an octave and a fifth.

The name comes from the German rausch (noise) or rusch (reed). It is an instrument with a very powerful sound, which will project well in an outdoor environment. Equally suitable for a traditional renaissance consort or folk music where it may be used to accompany bagpipes.

Like the rest of the early reed instruments, the rauschpfeife could only play chromatic tones outside the fundamental scale by using cross-fingerings. This weakens the sound of some tones and produces rather unsteady results when played by less experienced performers.

This instrument is made from the finest English sycamore and is presented with a cane reed, a reed care and maintenance leaflet and fingering chart in an attractive padded sleeve.

Each instrument is hand built to special order by in house craftsmen in our own workshops in Toledo (Spain) and comes with 12 months warranty.
